How to Install Free Mcboot 18c on Your PS2

Free Mcboot (FMCB) is a homebrew software that allows you to launch various applications and games on your PlayStation 2 console without the need for any extra hardware or modifications. It is compatible with most PS2 models, including the early Japanese units, the Chinese units, the PSX DVR unit, and the debug units. It also supports the HDD unit, which can be used to store and run games from the hard disk.

In this article, we will show you how to install FMCB 18c on your PS2 using a memory card and a USB drive. FMCB 18c is the latest version of FMCB as of 2023, and it offers improved stability, speed, and compatibility. It also includes various applications such as wLaunchELF, OPL, Poweroff APP, and more.

What You Need

A PS2 console that can boot original or backup discs.

A memory card (8MB or higher) that is formatted by the PS2.

A USB drive that is formatted to FAT32.

A PC with a DVD burner and a USB port.

A blank DVD-R or DVD+R disc.

The FMCB 18c installer package, which you can download from here.

Step 1: Burn the FMCB Installer Disc

Extract the FMCB 18c installer package to your PC and open the folder. You will see two folders: FMCBInstaller and Noobie_Package. The FMCBInstaller folder contains the files that you need to burn to a DVD disc, while the Noobie_Package folder contains the files that you need to copy to your USB drive.

Open your DVD burning software and select the option to burn an image file. Browse to the FMCBInstaller folder and select the file named FREE_MCBOOT.ELF. Burn it to a blank DVD disc at a low speed (4x or lower).

Step 2: Copy the Noobie Package to Your USB Drive

Connect your USB drive to your PC and open it. Create a folder named SWAPMAGIC on your USB drive and copy all the files from the Noobie_Package folder into it. Eject your USB drive safely from your PC.

Step 3: Install FMCB on Your Memory Card

Turn on your PS2 console and insert the FMCB installer disc that you burned in step 1. If your PS2 can boot original discs, it should load the disc automatically. If your PS2 can only boot backup discs, you will need to use a method such as swap trick or modchip to load the disc.

Once the disc is loaded, you will see a menu with four options: Install, Multi-install, Uninstall, and Exit. Select Install if you want to install FMCB on one memory card only, or select Multi-install if you want to install FMCB on multiple memory cards. Insert the memory card that you want to install FMCB on into slot 1 of your PS2.

The installer will detect your PS2 model and region, and ask you to confirm if you want to proceed with the installation. Press X to confirm, or O to cancel. The installation will take a few minutes, and you will see a progress bar on the screen. Do not turn off your PS2 or remove your memory card during the installation.

When the installation is complete, you will see a message saying "Installation completed successfully". Press X to exit the installer.

Step 4: Run FMCB from Your Memory Card

Eject the FMCB installer disc from your PS2 and insert your USB drive into one of the USB ports of your PS2. Turn off your PS2 and turn it back on. You should see a screen with the FMCB logo and a menu with various options. Congratulations, you have successfully installed FMCB on your memory card!

You can now use FMCB to launch various applications and games from your memory card, USB drive, or HDD unit. To access the applications that are included in the No 061ffe29dd
