the first movie, " the twilight ", was released in 2008, and was directed by catherine hardwicke, who is also responsible for the blockbuster " the thing ". the book was written by stephenie meyer, who also wrote " new moon " and the third and fourth books in the series, " eclipse " and " breaking dawn ". the movie had a budget of $20 million, while the book is budgeted at $10 million, because it is written in such a way that it is very easy to translate into a movie. it was, however, harder than expected to make the book into a movie, because it takes place in the same universe as the other three books, and the plot was not entirely the same.
