If you are wondering who is A P J Abdul Kalam and why you should listen to him, here is a brief introduction to his life and achievements. A P J Abdul Kalam was born on October 15, 1931, in Rameswaram, a small town in Tamil Nadu. He came from a humble background and had to work hard to support his family and education. He graduated in physics from St. Joseph's College, Tiruchirappalli, and then studied aerospace engineering at the Madras Institute of Technology.


He joined the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) as a scientist in 1958 and later moved to the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) in 1969. He was involved in many prestigious projects such as the Satellite Launch Vehicle, the Rohini satellite, the Agni missile and the Prithvi missile. He was also the chief architect of the Integrated Guided Missile Development Programme (IGMDP), which aimed to develop five types of missiles for India's defence. He earned the nickname of "Missile Man of India" for his contributions to India's missile technology.


In 1998, he played a key role in conducting India's nuclear tests at Pokhran, which established India as a nuclear power. He received several awards and honors for his scientific achievements, including the Padma Shri, the Padma Vibhushan and the Bharat Ratna, India's highest civilian award. He also received honorary doctorates from many universities around the world.


In 2002, he was elected as the 11th president of India with the support of both the ruling and the opposition parties. He was widely admired as a people's president who reached out to the masses, especially the youth and the children. He inspired millions of Indians with his vision of transforming India into a developed nation by 2020. He also wrote several books on his life, his vision and his thoughts, such as Wings of Fire, Ignited Minds, The Luminous Sparks and Indomitable Spirit.


He died on July 27, 2015, while delivering a lecture at the Indian Institute of Management, Shillong. He collapsed on stage after suffering a cardiac arrest and was declared dead on arrival at a hospital.
