Kuldeep Manak was born on 15 November 1951 in Jalal village in Bhatinda district of Punjab. His real name was Latif Mohammad Khan. He belonged to a musical family, as his father Nikka Khan was also a singer. He learned music from Ustad Harnam Singh and Ustad Rashid Khan.


He started his career as a stage performer in 1968 and released his first album Teri Khatir Heere in 1973. He gained popularity with his album Ik Tara in 1976, which featured the hit song Tere Tille Ton. He went on to release more than 50 albums in his career, some of which are Lukan Machayian (1977), Sucha Soorma (1980), Mirza Jatt (1982), Sahiba Da Tarla (1984), Jogi (1986), and Kaliyan Vol-2 (1991).
